Troubleshooting Photos –
Solutions...
This section consists of all the solutions that you would normally find by
using the Search By Disaster visual search pages. If you already know
how to describe a problem (or prefer to search by text descriptions),
this page may provide a short-cut to the solution. You can also use the Google
search tool.
- Auto-focus error – Camera has
focused on something other than the intended subject.
- Blocky enlargement – A resized photo is a mass of squares of color.
- Blowup unprintable – Your
software or a photo store tells you an enlargement can't
be printed.
- Dark shadows – The subject
(shot with flash) is surrounded by harsh shadows.
- Foreground blurred – The
subject is a number of objects at varying distances from
the camera and the nearest are unfocused.
- Fuzzy picture – The
whole picture is 'soft' in focus and doesn't have much
detail.
- Glare on glass -
There is a massive reflection from the flash in glass
or a mirror in the photo.
- Harsh outlines – Every
object or color change has harsh lines around it, like
the dark lines around cartoon images.
- Major color shift – The
colors in a print changed dramatically from the top to
the bottom.
- Overall red shift – The
print has a strong red cast that is not visible in the
monitor.
- Overall color cast – The scene
had strong colors when shot, but the photo is dull and
lifeless on screen.
- Poor print choices -
Printed examples and descriptions of the results of not
paying close attention to the choices in a Print dialog.
- Posterized color – Choosing
the wrong file format can yield odd results.
- Puddled ink – A poor Print dialog
choice can put more ink on the paper than it can handle.
- Ragged color blocks -
Mishandling of JPEG files can produce unsightly artifacts
in your pictures.
- Red eyes – The classic flash
trap – easy to fall into, easy to avoid or fix.
